Common Questions

What are the bold, tinted numbers?

Those are the given clues. They are fixed and cannot be changed.

What does Pencil Mode do?

It lets you jot small candidate numbers without committing to a final answer.

What does Show Mistakes do?

It highlights incorrect entries so you can fix them as you go.

Are hints available?

Not yet. The Hint button is visible but currently disabled.

What does Solve do?

It fills in the full solution and ends the current run.

Does Sudoku save my progress?

Yes. Your current puzzle resumes in the same browser.

Is there a timer?

The timer is optional. You can turn it off in Settings to play without time pressure.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play without creating an account.

What difficulty levels are available?

Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert, and Legendary.

Which solving techniques does FFG Sudoku use?

You’ll run into Naked Singles and Hidden Singles early, then more Locked Candidates, Naked Pairs, Hidden Pairs, Naked Triples, Hidden Triples, Naked Quads, Hidden Quads, X-Wing, XY-Wing, and Swordfish as puzzles get tougher. Guess/backtracking mostly appears in Expert and Legendary.

Is there a daily puzzle?

Yes. You can choose and play the daily puzzle at /sudoku/daily.

Do I need to keep a streak?

No. The daily puzzle is optional, and you can play whenever you want.
