Mine Finder Walkthrough

Let’s work through the decisions in a field. Your numbers will vary, but the same clues will help you find the next safe move.

1. Open a field

Choose Play Mine Finder, then pick a board size. Tap or click a covered tile to begin. When an empty area opens, look at the numbered tiles along its edge.

A small example field after opening. Highlight A marks a numbered clue along the covered edge.

2. Read one clue

A number counts hazards in the tiles touching it, including diagonals. A 1 means exactly one of those neighbors contains a hazard. Start with a clue that has only a few covered neighbors.

A: This clue touches one hazard. B: Its only covered neighbor must be that hazard; every other neighbor is already revealed.

3. Find a certain hazard

Suppose a revealed 1 touches exactly one covered tile and all its other neighbors are revealed. That covered tile must contain the hazard. Right-click or long-press it to place a flag. On touch screens, you can also use Flag mode.

B: Place a flag on the proven hazard. Flags mark your deduction; they do not reveal the tile.

4. Find the safe neighbors

Now look for a 1 touching that flag. If you know the flag is correct, the clue already has its one hazard accounted for. Its other covered neighbors are safe to reveal. For a 2, you need two correctly flagged neighbors before using the same reasoning.

A: This clue also reads one. B: The known hazard satisfies it. C: These two covered neighbors are safe.

5. Clear a group with a chord

When the flags around a revealed number match that number, double-tap the number to reveal its remaining covered neighbors together. You can also choose Chord, then select the number. Check your flags first: matching the count does not prove the flags are in the right places.

After a chord on A, the safe neighbors marked C are revealed. Empty areas can open additional tiles automatically.

6. Keep following the clues

Repeat these steps as new numbers appear. If a clue does not give you enough information, check another part of the field before guessing. You win by revealing every safe tile; placing flags alone does not finish the game.

The completed example: every safe tile is revealed. The bottom-right hazard can remain unflagged; revealing safe tiles is what wins.
